April 30th Race Report
Gainer Grabs Stock Pony Championship Race
Racing was once again fast and furious at North Georgia Speedway Saturday night. With some drivers and fans being absent due to the recent storms in the area, hearts were heavy and thoughts were with the one in need. With Super Late Models having the night off, the Stock Pony class captured the spotlight with their Championship race. When the checkers fell, Matthew Gainer grabbed the big trophy and the number one spot. Lamar Cook was the runner up, followed by Jeremy Millsap, Grady Garrett, and Mike Loenard.
The Limited Late Models provided some of the best racing of the night. Polesitter Devin Dilbeck couldn’t hold off the hard charging fifth starter, Shannon Beardon. Beardon blasted to the win, with Dilbeck holding on to second. Spencer Singleton finished third, followed by Lee Gray and Trig Parris rounding out the top five.
The Crate Late Models once again provided that side-by-side racing action! The fans saw the A-1 of Kayne Hickman cross the finish line first, just ahead of three time winner Jeff Smith. Following a post race protest, Hickman was disqualified from the event, awarding Smith his 4th victory in five races of 2011. Finishing 2nd was Craig Burrows, 3rd was Allen Green, 4th went to Darel Ownbey, and 5th to Aaron Wilson.
Former track champion Delbert Haynes picked up his first victory of 2011 in the Modified Hobby division. Haynes held off a hard charging Jordan Rodabaugh at the line. Greg Sudderth claimed 3rd, followed by Jr Whitener and Richard Dixon.
The Econo Hobby division made their 2011 debut Saturday night, with Justin Thomas picking up the victory. 2010 track champ Glen Grimsley was runner up, followed by Joe Dockery, Tyler Williams, and Brant Beard. Replacing the B-Hobby class, the Econo’s will be back in action once again next Saturday night.
Billy Callahan got his third victory of the year in the Modified Pony division, which allowed him to claim the Jody Millard Pest Control “Bug Man Bonus Money”. Wendall Ingram ran second, with Stevie Parker third, Natasha Stokes fourth, and Adam James fifth. The Mod Pony’s will race for their Championship race this weekend at NGS.
